چکیده

INTRODUCTION A new arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation procedure is proposed, which for some patients could be an alternative to the arthroscopic Latarjet procedure. METHODS The objective was to stabilize the shoulder by making a sling around the subscapularis tendon, using a hamstring graft and enhancing the anterior rim of the glenoid with the same graft. The anatomical feasibility of the surgical procedure was tested to establish the surgical method. RESULTS Four surgeons performed the surgery on six cadavers. After the surgery the cadavers were dissected to visualize the result. The sling was placed according to the intention and the nerves in the area (axillary and musculocutaneus) were not at risk, nor had they altered position during the procedure. CONCLUSION The procedure is technically feasible and the risk of complications seems low. This procedure could be an alternative to the Latarjet procedure and to other operations used for anterior instability of the shoulder. A biomechanical study will be performed as the next stage of the development. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This procedure could be an alternative to the Latarjet procedure and to other operations used for anterior instability of the shoulder. TRIAL REGISTRATION 2012/1978/REK sør-øst.

Treatment of shoulder dislocation: is a sling appropriate?

Acute anterior shoulder dislocations, when managed non-operatively, have traditionally been treated by placing the arm in a sling. There is no formal evidence that this treatment is of benefit. Three recently reported studies, one in cadavers and two in patients, suggest that the detachment of the structures in the front of the shoulder is made worse when the shoulder is placed in internal rota...

The Impact of Open Kinetic Chain Exercises and TRX Suspension Exercises on Shoulder Joint Proprioception in Overhead Athletes with Shoulder Impingement Syndrome : Randomized Controlled Trial

Purpose: Sub-acromial impingement syndrome [SIS] is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain, which affects shoulder joint proprioception. Closed kinetic chain [CKC] exercises with a Sling are more effective and safer than open kinetic chain [OKC] exercises. This study aimed to compare the efficiency of OKC and Sling exercises [TRX] on shoulder sense position joints in overhead athletes w...

The Pectoral Branch Arising from the Subscapular Artery: Case Report of a Rare Variation

Variations in the upper limbs are common and are the main causes for iatrogenic injury during invasive procedures. A rare division of the axillary artery was found on the left side of a Korean cadaver during an educational dissection. The subscapular artery originated from the second part of the axillary artery. And then it gave off an aberrant branch to the pectoralis major muscle, as pectoral...

Abnormal Branching of the Axillary Artery: Subscapular Common Trunk. A Case Report

An unusual unilateral variation in the branching pattern of axillary artery was observed in a 60 year old female embalmed cadaver. The axillary artery had only two branches arising from its proximal (first) part and no branches from its remaining distal (second & third) parts. The branches are superior thoracic (usual) and another large collateral (unusual) branch. This collateral branch is the...

The Effects of Shoulder Slings on Balance in Patients With Hemiplegic Stroke.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of a shoulder sling on balance in patients with hemiplegia. METHODS Twenty-seven hemiplegic stroke patients (right 13, left 14) were enrolled in this study. The subjects' movement in their centers of gravity (COGs) during their static and dynamic balance tests was measured with their eyes open in each sling condition-without a sling, with Bobath's axillary...
